North City is a stalwart, proud city nestled in Cardinal's largest mountain range. Because of frequently dipping temperatures and harsh mountain snowstorms that sweep through the area, many of North's 8 million people are a hardy folk who have learned to be largely independent of Cardinal's other major cities. Of all the metropoles of the land, this frosted city holds the fondest emotion for power wielders and their way of life. The ratio of power wielders to mortals is higher here than anywhere else. This is in spite of the fact that the area tends to attract the lower tiers of powered ability, since stronger fighters tend to stick to the "more important" cities. North City has also been attacked more often than any other Cardinalian settlement in history. It's people simply rebuild everything stronger and better, defiantly and rudely gesturing at the powers of evil in challenge.

Only once has North City been destroyed so utterly that even the citizens themselves were without a starting point to rebuild. Initially, the combined efforts of Jade Boskonovich and Albright Construction held promise that the city would be quickly rebuilt, but after disaster struck East City only weeks after North's destruction, Kasima Corporation was forced to either focus on North or East or risk spreading its resources too thin to be effective at either effort. At this point the infamous succubus Alida Blandine bent her legion of demons to rebuilding the city in an image she saw fit, uprooting all newcomers, destroying old job sites, and fiercely resisting any attempts to turn her away.

North City was fully restored at that point, though it no longer bore any semblance to its former incarnation. Now shelled beneath a massive, city-wide enchantment that protects it from the soul-withering cold and equipped with a massive magical engine that both powers the city and provides it with power-capable durability for all of its buildings, many southerners have found it a more enticing place to live. Despite all of this, many are paranoid that the city's new face is but a cog in Alida's plans, and a large number of people (comprising a relatively small portion of the population) have left for greener pastures.

The city's architecture is Greco-Roman, utilizing old-world aesthetics (most notably dome-and-arch construction) to create an almost anachronistic cityscape. At any given time, magical energy can be sensed permeating every single structure.

Points of Interest

Pillar of Warding

The Pillar of Warding is located in the center of the city, and takes the form of a thirty-story marble pillar inscribed with millions of runic symbols that are always glowing a faint purple color. It provides both the power-capable durability and limitless mundane energy to the city.

Church of Ecstasy

A sort of sororal cult that, until recently, was never directly involved with Alida or her operations. After the destruction of North City, the succubus used her apparently benevolent intentions as a massive recruitment drive, drastically increasing the number of mortals who affiliated themselves with the church or joined its ranks outright. The tenets of this faux-religion are kept strictly secret, though members of the church often act in a charitable manner towards the less-privileged.

Though there are two 'official' churches in West, one in South, and one in East, the church in North is by far the largest and most elaborate, and has the largest congregation as well.

Because of its open affiliation with Alida Blandine, the church remains under close scrutiny from both mortal and power-wielding authorities.
