Rules:Empirical Industries

This page does not form part of the core ruleset of the room. Instead, it exists to draw together rules and functions that either relate to Empirical Industries, or that apply to characters employed or otherwise affiliated with Empirical Industries.

TechPL

TechPL is a measure of how powerful Empirical's technology can be. It is calculated primarily from Daedalus' PL, but other Empirical characters can add to it using the R&D Assistant technique.

Whenever an EI-related character has a technique that produces items via Empirical means, or grants bonuses based on Empirical technology, with abilities dependent on their own PL(s), they may substitute EI's TechPL. However, the ability to use that technology effectively is limited by the PL of the character using the item, and so normally may not exceed the capacity it would have if the wielder's PL was used in place of TechPL. This can be improved via the Technical Savvy CT.

Empirical's TechPL is currently 1,358 PL.

Sales and Services

Equipment

Empirical makes available a selection of powered technology for sale to the powered community, and also makes it available at a discount (up to and including 100% on some items) for law enforcement and military characters. This is handled through an off-site board forum, here.

Colonization

Empirical Aeronautics can provide the services of a trained Planetary Survey Team, to survey possible colony planets, and Empirical can also provide a complete colony start-up.

For more details, check the Colonization sub-page, here.

Facilities

All Empirical facilities now have a durability equal to 200% EI's TechPL. Individual points, such as armoured doors, are considered to have their own durability of 50% EI's TechPL, which may be attacked separately from the building as a whole.

Training

Empirical has training arenas in Sanctuary, Safehouse. With training, gains are increased regardless of power type. All powered employees are encouraged to take advantage of them. They are publicly accessible, so they are also encouraged to direct others there, providing they are appropriately law-abiding, of course.

Medical

Empirical medical facilities can develop the ability to grant hospital stay benefits to races that normally do not gain any benefit from hospitals. This currently applies to the following races: Ogres.

Techniques

All NPC Empirical employees, powered or non, possess emergency teleportation devices that will teleport them away from danger, such as when a powered conflict erupts, or when they are personally injured.

Generally, all powered Empirical employees gain access to Empirical society techs.

The more these techniques are useful to a character, the more they are expected to give back, typically in terms of either gaining the R&D Assistant technique, or by other beneficial means, such as training other company employees up, or developing new company technology (see Daedalus/Derived Techniques, below)

Communications

All Empirical communications use encryption to secure themselves from intrusion. They currently have a resistance to cracking techniques equal to 1,000% EI's TechPL.

Daedalus

While Daedalus is his own AI character, he is intended to primarily act as the character carrying the lion's share of Empirical in terms of giving it actual in-game statistics and techniques, and making those available to the company's characters. To that end, he has several effects which should be broadly known, in case they apply to your character.

Derived Techniques

Any techniques that represent the company, rather than the specific character, producing an item, where the item has a development cost and a separate production cost, are automatically known by Daedalus once the development cost has been made. The technical details of such techniques should be communicated to Hroefn so he can add them to Daedalus' knowledge base.

Permanent Racial Template Modifications

Daedalus is developing the ability to modify the racial template of Ogres. If you play one and wish to have those effects implemented on your character, contact Hroefn to work out the details.

Pericles

Pericles grants several important Empirical society techs.

Company Tech Development

Pericles is able to receive tech day transfers from Empirical-affiliated character in order to develop certain techniques. When used to develop Company techniques that grant a Society technique, if the transferring character transfers sufficient tech days to cover the cost of learning the Society technique, they automatically receive it, being considered to have participated in the development of the technology sufficiently to have mastered the usage of it. Even if the technique is already complete, transferred days may still be usable for upgrading the technique.
