Background

Born in one of the larger, non-metropolitan desert cities of Cardinal, Teraptus was raised in a wealthy, religious family. He was indoctrinated into the deeper Kamist faith, and attended a private school in East City that specialized in mentoring students toward taking a position in the Kamist church. Studious and insightful, the boy realized early on that he wanted to become a member of the Order of the Rose, Cardinal's religious equivalent of the Secret Service. They were responsible not only for protecting the Grand Cardinal from threats, but also for seeking out artifacts of the faith and probing out the deeper truths of their faith, which many scoffed at as being the unwitting worship of a slug-alien.

Teraptus would discover, however, that the path to inception was difficult and lengthy. He took on martial training, learning how to unlock and harness his ki naturally from a well respected Kamist priest. He was then sent out into the world to develop his art and skills on his own, told simply that he must gird himself in knowledge and faith, and return only when he had "liberated his own humanity". On his quest, he refused the wealth of his family, seeing poverty as a necessary condition to experiencing his own being with fidelity. Instead, he now actively seeks out interaction with his fellows of Earth, and its many visitors. Each interaction brings him closer to the understanding he seeks.

Previous Teraptus Icebreeds

Teraptus Icebreed has had four previous incarnations:

• Teraptus was a brooding ne'er-do-well who met the demoness Alisa Eclipse in virtual prison, Cardinal's first attempt to police power wielders. Alisa kidnapped him to her pocket dimension, tainted his soul, and made him her slave. Since she was his only real contact of consequence, nobody really noticed.

• Teraptus was a mysterious martial artist who toured Cardinal, seeking to teach random youths on the street to harness their dormant ki. He participated in a Tenkaichi Budoukai, in which he participated so poorly that Alothin gave him a consolation prize for perservering. He faded into obscurity after that.

• Teraptus was a teenage rogue living in the wastelands of Azshar. He became acquainted with a couple of visiting power wielders (I forget which ones) and helped them navigate the "capital" city of the desert. Once the power wielders left, Teraptus didn't enter the spotlight again and so he was retired.

• Teraptus was a young, platinum-haired teen who had a knack for adapting a person's ki into wearable electronics. Capsule Corporation allowed him his own private lab space when he caught their attention at the West City science fair. He then developed the Pod Reach, a minuscule version of CC's popular smartphone that used even a mortal's ki to create a completely tangible, 3D, interactive interface in the air around the user. He had a girlfriend who practically worshipped him. He's ostensibly still alive, but incredibly boring, so he was abandoned.
