Career Progression
Due to the highly divisional nature of the Network, there is no single ranking system shared in common. Similarly, there is no singular path toward the top of any given hierarchy. As the Network's divisions do generally agree that the ability to achieve results far outstrips any casual glance at power or experience, however, most characters will find that being proactive about their duties will help them ascend their particular ladder.
The only exception is the Chairperson of the Network, who presides over all Network activity. He convenes with the Cabinet of Resources, of which every (publicly accepted) division head is a member.
While most in character fights will not merit any sort of promotion, participating in Plot RPs and [[../Special Operations|Special Operations]] designed for the character will help them accelerate quickly through their ranks.
Ranks
Information Services and PsiCorps
Aside from executive officers who lead various departments and the division itself, most active characters in IS or the PsiCore are ranked as follows, from lowest to highest rank:
- Agent
- Senior Agent
- Operative
- Senior Operative
- Proctor
These are considered the low ranks in the department, but ranks above them concern themselves mostly with office work, and rarely enter the field. Rather than having a clear ranking system, most executives have corporate-like titles.
Mysterium
The ranks of the Mysterium are as follows, from lowest to highest:
- Novice
- Acolyte
- Senior Acolyte
- Augur
- Senior Augur
- Adept - Ranks at and beyond this level have leadership and teaching responsibilities
- Savant
- Preceptor
- High Preceptor
- Sage - Ranks at and beyond this level have administrative and institutional responsibilities
- High Sage
- Magus
- Arch-Magus of the Mysterium - Chief of the division
In the Mysterium, rank mostly delineates experience and pay, excepting where the ranks are split into tiers of responsibility. Only members of a higher tier may issue orders.
The Chief sits at the Council of Magi, and only issues orders when they are conveyed from higher levels of command.
Department of Inquiry
The Department of Inquiry has ranks similar to a police precinct, ranging from Officer at the lowest to the Department Commissioner at the top. Being a fairly small department compared to other sections of the military, the DoI has very few purely administrative ranks; unless a clerical position is specifically requested, most members actively pursue their work in the field.
Tau Division
The Tau Division have no ranks, only agent numbers, and the contact with whom they receive orders.
