Etiquette Rules

Respect All Chatters

Please treat your fellow chatters and staffers with respect. Consider what your actions will do to other people before you do them.

Obey Staff Decisions

Acting contradictory to a staffer's decision is a surefire way to get banned from AltDBZ.

Observe the Room Rating

AltDBZ is a public room on IMC, and must adhere to a "16-Rated" behavior code, which must be enforced.

Picture Regulations

All handle images must follow IMC picture standards, as well as our own. Handle pictures need to be no more than 350 on the longest side. Please avoid using the same picture as other people. If you are unsure if your picture is too large, do not post with it until you are sure. We recommend you consult staff privately to find out.

No Room Advertisement Without Permission

Don't advertise other role play chatrooms in our room, either publicly or by going "gummi-to-gummi" privately, unless you have received permission to do so from the room staff.

General Role-Play Regulations

Don't Intrude, Get Permission

You need permission before your character enters an RP already started by others. You can't force somebody to RP with you. Get permission for each character you enter with.

Victims Call Effects

A character is only affected by something if its player says so. In plot-related conflicts, staffers may be called in to enforce rules against a player's decision, but in most cases the decision belongs to the character's player.

Role-Play Pausing Policy

We do not enforce RP pausing. That is, if an RP is put on pause with your character in it, you are allowed to immediately use that character in another, future RP. This is different from a character being "incapped" or killed, which is explained in another section.

Backlogging Policy

You can "backlog" RPs. That means you can pretend that your RPs are taking place up to a week ago. You're responsible for rewinding and fast-forwarding your own PLs and techs, though.

No Godmoding

Godmoding is when a player makes his/her character do something it shouldn't be able to. Don't. Be reasonable with your character's actions, especially in battle.

No Metagaming

Metagaming is when you bring real life knowledge to your characters' minds, when they would have no realistic way of knowing it in character. Here are some examples of metagaming:

  • "Randomly" exploiting an unrevealed weakness in an opponent.
  • Having a character read another character's thoughts that are not enclosed in thought markers, and without your character having psionic abilities.
  • Manipulating character powers and actions to take advantage of the rules, instead of doing things realistically (also known as "powergaming")
  • Asking around in the room for a spar with characters that yours doesn't know. (The preferred method is to simply ask for RP)

Application Policy

Most kinds of characters require some kind of application and approval before they may be used, with the exception of playtesting. The Characters section can help you figure out if you have to or not.

When you apply for a character, requesting a specific staffer to handle the application is not allowed unless that particular staffer specifically tells you that you may.

Miscellaneous Rules

Volatility Clause

This is to declare that our rules and our perspective of the room and the way it should be run can change from time to time, so we reserve the right to change the rules at any time we deem fit, which includes but is not limited to the manner in which your characters and their paraphernalia are interpreted with the room rules (such as the workings of techniques). We reserve the right to change any and all matters related to the room if we have discovered a significant reason to do so. We do try to keep everyone informed of rules changes when we can, however.

Rules Spirit Clause

This is to declare that we acknowledge that every rules system has holes, and this system is by far no exception. However, we assert that there is a "spirit" or general moral direction that the rules stand for, and this is what is to be followed closely, rather than the actual wording of the rules. Thus, staffers are authorized to make unwritten interpretations of the rules to cover any loopholes that players discover, and depending on determined intent, players may receive disciplinary measures if they are seen as attempting to take advantage of holes in the rules' wording.

Website Security Clause

Since Alternate Dragonball Z RP is a public room on IMC, it is required by IMC rules to have a homepage at all times. This is to reiterate the IMC enforcement that Alt's webpage provider is contracted to service such that the existing website must, within reason, be in fully functioning service until such time that a full replacement is arranged or the room is shut down.
