This is the story-based description for the Celestian race. For their official character rules, go here.

The Celestian race hails from the floating isle of Celestia, which hovers over D'hennex. The people of this floating island possess characteristics that others deem as angelic, displaying wings and holy auras, to mention a few. Throughout the passage of time, most Celestians have grown haughty and proud, believing themselves to be the predominantly superior race and country in D'hennex.

Origins

Despite their immortality, no Celestian seems to know how they came to be, save for their leader the Seraph. What holds true to them is that, ever since the creation of D'hennex, Celestia and its inhabitants have always existed. However, save for perhaps a few renegades, they have always maintained themselves in strict seclusion throughout the ages. This has changed recently.

Characteristics

All Celestians possess wings. These come in varying colors, from white, to gray, to black, or any subtle combination. The colors are not indicative of any social or moral status, they are simply differentiators. On the outside and at first glance, they appear to be physically similar to humans. But Celestians seem to lack imperfections, and very well live up to the legendary angels of yore.

They possess different physiologies from humans, however, such as differences in organ systems, metabolisms, etc. Celestians are known for possessing great strength and gathering power quickly, priding themselves in being above the bar where wielding power is concerned. This has given them large egos with the passage of time, and they are known to show a grand superiority complex.

All Celestians possess Ki energy. Their spiritual powers are a wonder to behold, auras of holy power capable of great healing abilities and protections against the sullied blight of the undead and their masters.

The people of Celestia do not reproduce. Rather, a slightly large number of years must pass before a new Celestian is created, fully grown. The process of this creation is a closely guarded secret, which only the Seraph seems to be aware of. Those Celestians who have recently been created are, of course, unaffected by the general egotistical nature that most of their brethren seem to possess.

Organization

Celestians are divided into Choirs, or castes.

  • The First Choir, the Seraphim: The Seraph is the one true ruler of Celestia. His or her word is law. To date, only a single Seraph has presided over the Eternal City ever since its creation, though perhaps more than one could exist. A Seraph is chosen to be heir to the Golden Throne by the existing Seraph, and by a general vote from the Second Choir. If the existing Seraph is to meet an unlikely and untimely end, or wishes to retire, then the heir to the Golden Throne is elevated. The Seraph is, usually, the most powerful and wisest of all Celestians.
  • The Second Choir, the Erelim: The Erelim are the peacekeepers of Celestia. They are the best warriors of the land, displaying incredible powers and the purest of auras. Usually, the Erelim are not allowed to leave the Eternal City, and given that very few know of its existence, an attack on Celestia has not been effected yet. There have, however, been members of the Eternal City who have gone against their law, and therefore been quelled by the Erelim. Celestians are elevated to the second choir by the Seraph.
  • The Third Choir, the Malakhim: The Malakhim are the most common and numerous people of Celestia. Every recently created brethren is part of this choir, and they remain so for many years. The Malakhim tend to the day to day tasks of the Eternal City. Despite their common position in their society, almost every member of the third choir are also adept power wielders. Celestians live in a society that, despite its reclusive and peaceful state, are always honing their skills and powers. That, and the Malakhim often strive to be elevated into the second choir with much fervor.

Beliefs

Despite bearing significant resemblance to the holy messengers and angelic beings of some religions, the Celestian race does not practice any sort of belief system. In their mind, higher powers are systems of control made up for the weak willed humans, given their mortality and wish to belong to something after they have expired. If anything, some Celestians have begun to suspect that they are the ones to be worshiped, for none can match them when it comes to their holy presence and the supposed eternal wisdom that they possess.
