Leadership

Kalar Ebayeth rules this region as the Undead Queen, and has beside her the original group of forty-two, who were resurrected at the same time she crawled, newly-dead and awake, from the mire of a lake. Most of the forty-two are now captains in the undead fleet, and the remainder live in great tree fortresses along with their mistress.

Their undead underlings build grand fleets and structures, and some of the more advanced things they need are gathered on raiding parties to the other Drovinian regions, and to the neighbouring D'hennexian territories.

Location

Since Kar Ellar Sumn is a collection of lakes, lochs, rivers and marshland, the main method of travel in the territory is by water. Most sea craft upon the poisonous waters have to be specially treated, either with magic, or with a special substance called Kaiger, which can be found in the sap of the enormous trees of the area. The Ellar trees which grow have a hearty resistance against the poisonous environment, and act as a reminder for the denizens of the land that even the darkest of poisons can be overcome. It is said that no larger trees are found outside of the Jungles of Ka.

Sumnir

The main tree fortress complex is found in the direct center of Kalar Ebayeth's realm: the city of Sumnir. Directly watching over the lake that the sorceress herself fell into and was reborn, the Sorceress, the Forty Two and most of the human contingent to Kar Ellar Sumn live in the gigantically proportioned Ellar trees. The living are given quarters and a certain standard of living that is not unfavourable, yet not luxurious. Kalar Ebayeth needs living around her to give her conduits for her particular kind of magic, so the living who find function in this way are cherished until they pass on, then they are given a position of their choice. Only in Sumnir are the living respected in this way.

Buratha

When an Ellar tree is felled by storm, age or happenstance, the undead denizens of Kar Ellar Sumn take the wood to Buratha, the city of docks. Here is where the fleet of Kalar Ebayeth is created and maintained and here is where the most mechanically and construction oriented undead find their work. It is also here where the only store of Kaiger is found to be used in protecting the ships and equipment that will be in contact with the poisonous acidic waters. Even some ships of the living are captured and taken to Buratha to be fitted for the Kalar's needs, and for maitenance. The Kalar Ebayeth has one particular pleasure: taking the ships of different lands and maintaining them for use as her own personal ferry system. It is in the immaculate testimonies to the living that Kalar Ebayeth meets with other Kalars, if she meets with them at all. It is also within the well maintained ships that any emissaries or ambassadors, or generals of Kar Ellar Sumn meet with other undead.

Populace

85% Undead
5% Human/Living
10% Undead creatures/monsters

The populace of Kar Ellar Sumn is largely composed of undead souls resurrected in vengeance and malice, who have had their veins filled with poison, and study methods of acting out the anger within their unbeating hearts. The great warriors of this place are berserkers, who, once wounded, simply continue on until the last of their acidic bodies are spilt on the land in which they fall. The common bond of the ranks of Kar Ellar Sumn is their hunger for vengeance, and other than the need for continuity to destroy more of the world, the entire region would become one gigantic cesspool of murderous souls. Unlike the skeletal dead, Kalar Ebayeth tends to keep her undead troops in a certain modicum of repair and self-sentience. There are very few mindless zombies, for Kalar Ebayeth values the insight that comes with a certain level of consciousness. Mindlessness is the reward for disobedience, the relm of the coward or the traitor and for those, Ebayeth has a merciless hand.

There are a few humans among the murderous throngs, who had mostly been raided from outlying human villages, or had been the center of a group of undeads' rage. These humans act as servants, magical aides and layworkers in the lakes, and live in small sections of the trees. Once the humans meet their end, however, they are raised as equals of the rest of the undead.

Throughout the cesspools, undead creatures that once resembled animals and sea-monsters slither and crawl around the ships. They feed on the algae that collects on the ships, and makes the ships, and eventually the creatures, luminescent.

Political

The lakes of Kar Ellar Sumn are wary of the other Drovinian lands, and often lash out in case the other lands ever think they could be conquered. Strike first, interrogate prisoners later, seems to be the policy in all things. After all, when you can raise the dead, why keep live prisoners?

One difference in relations stems through the uneasy relations with Kalar Baen and Ter-Fiinokth. Although the relations could not be considered amicable, Kalar Ebayeth tolerates Kalar Baen, and his undead sense of kindness and treats him with equal respects. However, Kalar Ebayeth is no fool, if Baen was to turn on her beloved collection of lakes and waterways, the great sorceress would be ready indeed.

The particular hate of Kalar Ebayeth is the coastland of the living. Having a significant navy, the Kalar sends her troops via the secret waterways to scour the lands and the fleets of the living with her death. From these battles she takes no prisoners, no dead to add to the cause. Kallinstrate, Westphalia, An-Yneaith, and the Jeati of Ka all have ships at the bottom of the ocean because of Kalar Ebayeth's might.
