Rules:Other Statistics

Not all numerical statistics are a variant of strength or speed. The following fit into this miscellaneous category.

Gain Rate

A character's gain rate is the core gain statistic, which determines how much power level a character gains from almost any situation where some would be gained. The gain rate is a percentile, and represents what percentage of an opponent's total power level a character gains from having a challenging combat with them. Most adventure gains, passive training gains, and others are derived from (are based on) the gain rate in some way.

Gain rate can be improved through passive bonus techniques. The base gain rate for a character is usually determined by their race.

Gain Capacity

A character's gain capacity, or "gain cap", describes the maximum amount of power level a character can gain to any one power type during the course of each day. The gain capacity statistic is almost always fixed at twice whatever the gain rate statistic is. As the gain rate changes, so does the gain capacity. Certain special power level gains (especially very large gains) may specifically ignore the gain cap.

Potency and Resistance

Many special techniques in AltDBZ rely directly upon a comparison of power levels to determine whether a landed effect succeeds or not, rather than a power or speed comparison. Usually this comparison is fairly straightforward, but other techniques may alter at what power a character counts for defending against such effects. Sometimes, the attacks themselves do not simply use the power level of the attacker, but some mulitplier thereof. In these modified situations, the effective power level of the attack is called its potency and the effective power level of the defender is called his/her resistance (damage resistance is not related to this statistic).

Mental Resistance

There is a specific kind of resistance called mental resistance, which applies to any time an unwanted effect tries to change what a character thinks, how they act, or any other direct, non-damaging assault on the mind. Most characters have a mental resistance equal to their total power level, but characters with psionic power may count that power twice to determine mental resistance.

Slots

Slots are a feature exclusive to Psions and characters with physical power types based on psionics. A single slot represents a single psionic (or physical) action that can be taken during every post. Slots isn't really considered a statistic like most others are, but nonetheless determines an important trait of a character which can be improved through passive bonus techniques.

Actions

An action is more of a fundamental unit than a statistic. One action represents all of a character's efforts and maneuvers that normally takes place during one round of combat. This includes psions; how a psion uses all of his/her available slots is considered part or whole of that character's action for the round. Certain techniques can briefly increase how many actions a character may play out during a single round of combat, usually in a row (they may not be mixed together into one big action). While an action in this sense usually refers to use of all of a character's power types, certain rare circumstances gift only one particular power level with extra actions.

Actions cannot typically be improved on a long-term basis, and it is almost never allowed to have more than two actions in any one round.
