Appearance

Kai stands about five and a half feet, with a curvaceous build. Her wild mane of thick Saiyan hair is just about waist-long and usually tied back in a sloppy ponytail with a big purple bow. Kai favors casual clothing like cutoff jeans and T-shirts, though she usually wears heavy steel-toed construction boots no matter what sort of clothing she sports. Most of her scars have been removed due to supernatural healing, but one she has kept - a thick, gnarled line of burnt tissue running from the back of her neck down her spine to end just above the base of her tail.

Powers

Kainatsu sufers from a rather typical Saiyan combat mentality, which is to say, she tries to beat the hell out of things until either her opponent falls or she does. She is somewhat adept with polearm-type weapons, particularly the naginata, but her signature technique is a massive, incinerating ki-fireball that seems to travel at incredible speed and deliver a tremendous amount of damage.

Biography

Only child of Jagaimo Nuaichi and his wife Asuka, Kainatsu was born aboard the mining ship captained by Jagaimo and raised in the unassuming lifestyle of Saiyans who were not mercenaries, but hardworking asteroid miners. From an early age, she evidenced a knack for things mechanical, and by the age of fourteen, was repairing and maintaining the ship's complement of mining equipment. During a risky venture mining for extremely valuable materials in a war zone, the mining ship was raided. The crew was slaughtered, and Kainatsu captured, with only her father escaping alive with the ship.

Kai spent the next couple of years as a prisoner of war in a work-prison that doubled as a shipyard, lending her mechanical skills to the maintenance of shipbuilding equipment. Her captors, only partly aware of the nature of Saiyans, fitted her with a power limitation device to prevent her from using her Saiyan strength to escape. The captors were missing one critical piece of information, however, and it came to light - moonlight, to be specific - two and a half years into her sentence. A fight between inmates had drawn the guards' attention, and while watching the fight for amusement, Kai was exposed to moonlight for the first time during her sentence. The power limitation device could not cope with the surge in ki that went along with the Oozaru transformation, and it burned itself out as Kai transformed into the Saiyan's animal state.

She destroyed both guards and prisoners alike in an Oozaru rampage until she finally exhausted herself and fell unconscious. Upon awakening, rather than wallow in remorse or glory in the destruction, she seized the opportunity to seek out her fellow prisoners, free them from their own control devices, and commandeer a recently-completed ship to escape the prison. As soon as they had escaped the warzone, Kainatsu agreed to leave the ship, as the other prisoners were still frightened by her potential to transform again, and her inability to discriminate between friend and foe in that state. It was shortly thereafter that Kai first heard the rumors that her father was still alive - but not as the kind-hearted miner she'd known. Instead, word had it that he had become a terrible, marauding space pirate.

Determined to stop her father and return him to his senses, Kainatsu spent twenty years chasing rumors from spaceport to spaceport across the galaxy. The end of her path came on Earth, when she arrived on Cardinal just a scant few weeks after her father's death at the hands of her half-siblings. With no more reason to travel, Kainatsu settled down on Earth, into a job doing heavy construction work, and a relationship wth an alien woman named Jade Sorrow. Once the events of Etiquette of Reform had ended, Kai sold her father's abandoned spaceship, and used the profits to buy a sprawling house on the edges of the desert outside West City, then funneled the remainder into an auto garage and old vehicle restoration business in West City itself.

Kai sacrificed all she earned in the name of chasing her father during the years she travelled. One of the things she gave up was a relationship with a fellow Saiyan, her lover and her travelling companion for ten years, Ookami Yamashima. Recently the two have been reunited on Earth, and while Ookami spends a considerable amount of his free time with Kai and Jade, Kai's harsh and violent attitude toward him makes it uncertain precisely how the affair will end up.
