Appearance

Reiko is a human woman, just on the pretty side of average in looks, and well-preserved for her age. She is of average height and figure, with long deep-blue hair usually worn neatly back in a ponytail or a bun. She dresses modestly, in plain dresses or traditional kimonos, with the addition of a white lab coat when she's working. Her sole truly striking feature is her eyes, which are an unearthly emerald green in color and tend to illuminate from within during strenuous use of her psionic abilities.

Powers

Reiko is unique, perhaps, in that she is a power wielder who does not under any circumstance raise her hand to battle. She considers herself a healer, not a hero, and will escape from an unpleasant situation rather than participate in combat and potentially cause injury instead of healing it. Her psionic abilities are solely centered around the healing of all types of injury, poisoning, and disease, as well as methods of rapid travel such as teleportation.

Biography

The village of Ichido, which lies about an hour's drive to the north of West City, is by and large a peaceful place. For many years, the tiny village was entirely devoid of power wielders, and as such, remained largely free of combat and conflict. It was here that Reiko was born to Hiroshi and Keiko Niyama in September of 1972, and where she lived a completely unremarkable mortal life until her teen years. The world changed for Reiko when a Saiyan pirate named Jagaimo Nuaichi laid waste to the village, which he stumbled across while visiting a nearby storage cache. The entire Niyama family was slaughtered save Reiko, as were most of the other villagers. The few survivors banded together to rebuild their home, and nine months later, Reiko gave birth to a pair of half-Saiyan twins named Tamanegi Niyama and Kyuukei Niyama (later to become Kyuukei Niyama Raines).

With the village rebuilt and her family gone, Reiko's only wish was to continue to live her unremarkable life while raising her children in peace. She made a living as an herbalist, nurse, and midwife, selling medicines and providing medical assistance to the people of the village. When she wasn't working at that, she was tending to her children, and raising them to be as human as she could make them. Her son, she sent for martial arts training, intending to make of him the family's guardian; her daughter, she taught to cook, sew, make tea, and help with the medicines. So the small Niyama family lived until the twins reached their teen years, and both left home. Reiko found herself alone, and uncertain of her future path. Without her children to attend to, there was a huge empty space in her life, and she withdrew into her home and garden, seeking company in books that furthered her herbal craft.

It was during this period when she was alone that Jagaimo returned to Earth. He kidnapped Reiko after learning of the existence of his halfbreed children, intending to use her to bait them to his side. Instead, it was Reiko's son and her daughter's significant other, Altar Raines, who handed the pirate a messy defeat and rescued Reiko from his clutches. Family friend James Kaider made a deal with the mage Alothin, and Reiko spent the next several months in the safety of Deius Castle while her children continued to battle the pirate. Upon Jagaimo's death at their hands, Reiko found herself suddenly free - not merely alone, as she had been when her children left, but free of the pirate's shadow that hovered over her for seventeen years. But once again, she was at loose ends. What next?

It was in James Kaider that Reiko found her answer. After watching her children's success with James's psionic training, she made up her mind, and pursued the same training with dogged determination. She became one of the first completely mortal students to achieve psionic enlightenment at the Schule, and as soon as she completed her trial by combat at the end of that training, she vowed never to use her hands or her mental strength in battle again. Instead, she turned back to her lifelong studies of medicine and herbalism, and focused on developing the ability to heal injuries quickly, completely, and painlessly using psionic power. Once she had perfected a rudimentary healing ability, Reiko returned to Deius Castle, to seek an informal apprenticeship under the legendary healer Aethaen D'Argente. Under his tutelage, she greatly expanded her powers of healing, and worked countless hours in the Castle's infirmary during the final months of Etiquette of Reform tending to casualties from both sides of the space-borne battlefield, as well as during the 2006 Tenkaichi Budoukai. In addition, she is informally but semi-permanently on call to the Schmidt Dojo, where she teleports to deal with the occasional, unavoidable injuries that occur in high-powered ki training.

In the meantime, she continues to train under Aethaen, and offers her abilities when and where they are needed without regard to the identity of her patients. As frequently as she can find the time to do so, she returns to Ichido to spend a few hours tending to the ills of the village, and to tend to her small home and garden that remain there. Unbeknownst to all bust a small handful of friends, however, she does occasionally spend a night out dancing at the nightclubs of West City, albeit disguised under vivid haircolor and club clothes that very few who know Reiko would recognize. She also frequently spends time with her rapidly-expanding family and circle of friends.
